New milestone for the Trèfle-Blanc ice rink: the investment credit promulgated in the Official Gazette

The Trèfle-Blanc ice rink project is moving forward. A new milestone has been reached: Law 13672 opening the investment credit of 275.5 million francs required for the construction of the project was promulgated on November 21 in the Official Gazette (FAO) and entered into force the following day.

This promulgation follows the absence of opposition to the law voted by the Geneva Grand Council on September 26. “This is an important step. For the past five years, several stakeholders – State services, the City of Lancy, the GSHC, architectural and engineering firms – have been working together to ensure that this crucial project for Geneva progresses and becomes a reality for the population. The promulgation of the law is the culmination of this entire process,” emphasizes Thierry Apothéloz, President of the Council of State and State Councillor in charge of the Department of Social Cohesion (DCS). “An ice rink is built only once per century. This unique project is subject to multiple constraints, which we strive to address with the utmost precision,” adds Thierry Apothéloz.

An emblematic venue

For the City of Lancy and for the entire region, this ice rink will become an emblematic venue, as Corinne Gachet, Administrative Councillor in charge of sports for the city, likes to recall: “Lancy is proud to host the future Trèfle-Blanc ice rink and welcomes the progress of the project. By 2030, the municipality aims to strengthen its role in promoting sport and well-being by making this site a true hub of life, integrating high-quality outdoor developments and real spaces dedicated to the population.”

A solid foundation for the future

The progress of the project also marks a decisive step for the future of the Genève-Servette Hockey Club (GSHC) and Geneva ice hockey. “This new infrastructure will allow our young players to develop in professional conditions, strengthen elite hockey in Geneva and close the gap we had with other clubs in Switzerland. I warmly thank the Department of Social Cohesion, and particularly the President of the Council of State Thierry Apothéloz, as well as the Department of Territory for their commitment. The support of the Geneva Grand Council and the collaboration with the City of Lancy have been essential in making this project possible. Thanks to their involvement, we can now build a solid foundation for the future of the club,” says Philippe Baechler, President of the GSHC.

Start of works in 2026

Construction works are expected to begin during the first half of 2026. At the same time, reinforcement works on the Route des Jeunes bridge began in mid-November. These works will allow 40-ton trucks to use this route in order to unload excavation materials and transfer them onto rail at La Praille.
